Two factor authentication (2FA) is an important layer of security in addition to the traditional passwords. As we laid out in the article, Security 101: What is Two Factor Authentication, it uses things that only the user will know or posses to determine if the access is legitimate or fraudulent. More and more websites are using 2FA to enhance security on their site.
Given that online banking websites should be very secure, it is important that they implement 2FA. Most banks have implemented 2FA for the security of their customers. However, the security advocacy group 2fa.directory notes that there are some banks which have not implemented it yet. Take a look at the list maintained on their website.
Is your bank on that list?
As members of the secure community, it is our duty to find out if our bank has not implemented 2FA and ensure the financial wellbeing of its customers. If you find that your bank is not mentioned in the list and has not implemented 2FA, be sure to get the directory updated. Be sure to reach out to your bank and suggest them to implement this security measure. If your bank appears in this list, do use the Twitter or Facebook link to reach out to your bank. On the other hand, if they have implemented 2FA, please do get the list updated to reflect that. You can also leave a comment below for us and we will be happy to get it updated too.
Has any banks on the list implemented 2FA?
We picked the biggest banks from this list to see if they have implemented 2FA. Some of them have – kudos to them. For the others which haven’t implemented 2FA, we would strongly urge them to so.
